Sedation Dentistry

Calmer and Easier Dental Visits with Safe Sedation Options

Part of our exceptional dental experience is helping your child relax and feel comfortable during treatment.

Create a Relaxing Dental Experience to Build Positive Memories with Your Child

One of our main focuses as a pediatric dental care specialist is helping your child enjoy going to the dentist. Children who are extremely apprehensive, anxious, or nervous about their upcoming visit or they have a large amount of treatment needs may benefit from a sedation option. We’ll create a personalized sedation plan for your child to ensure they’re comfortable and happy while we perform any dental treatments they may need with pain free dentistry techniques.

Is Dental Sedation Safe for Children?

Millions of children are sedated each year for routine dental procedures so they don’t have to feel anxious or stressed during invasive procedures. At Milk Tooth we provide only the safest and most effective sedation options performed by highly skilled and qualified doctors. We will work with your family, your medical providers and our anesthesia team to ensure that a dental sedation is the best fit for your child.

Personalizing the Sedation Solution for Your Child’s Needs

We offer several different types of sedation for children of all ages. From nitrous oxide (laughing gas) to general anesthesia, we can provide a solution that makes your child comfortable and relaxed throughout the entire process. Your child’s age and the amount of sedation they need to feel relaxed will largely guide which option is best. If you have any concerns, we can sit down and discuss the entire process with you before we begin.

The main options for sedation for creating a relaxing and safe dental treatment are:

Nitrous Oxide

Nitrous oxide is considered the gentlest form of sedation. It produces a sense of euphoria and relaxation, but it doesn’t actually put your child to sleep. It used to be known as laughing gas or sleepy gas due to its gentle effects that help reduce anxiety. It’s popular among adults who just need a little help with dental anxiety, and it’s one of the safest options for children. Gas is administered with a comfortable mask, giving your child just a small dose at a time that can be stopped at any time. The effects wear off relatively quickly (within a couple minutes) compared to other forms of sedation.

General Anesthesia

If your child has many treatment needs and/or is very young or anxious then General Anesthesia may be the best option. General Anesthesia is when a child falls asleep with a strong inhaled anesthetic through a mask. Once they are asleep an IV can be inserted to keep them asleep, comfortable and safe. At Milk Tooth we use highly skilled and trained anesthesiologists to ensure that our patients receive the best care possible. The anesthesiologist will keep your child asleep and safe while our dental team focuses on addressing their treatment needs.
